Where did it all start?!
Born in the 80's and mostly known as Millennials or Generation Y, having seen both the worlds it feels nostalgic when we look back to see the culture and the jobs of that decade.
People were mostly into Industries, banking, household appliance industry . A smart phone was not even a thought anyone could contemplate. International calling was an expensive affair. Over the years certain services ceased to exist while many services and products evolved and became a convenience.
While I took pride in my first Nokia 1800 in 2004, showing it off while travelling to my college, today mobiles have become a necessity. With the advent of smart phones, everything is at your finger tips. From shopping to entertainment to banking to taking pictures, you name it you have it. The last time I visited the bank was in 2016 when India saw demonetization.
Electronic and IT industry have played a prominent role to bring the world where is it stands today. And the advancement is increasing at an exponential speed.
India's IT Services industry was born in 1967 with the creation of Tata Consultancy Services. IT sector is quite old considering the year it started but was not much popular until IT saw a boom around 1995 - 1996.
As a child I never heard or read about computers. I was introduced to computers in Class 7 and I recall attending the computer classes just to play Mario. It was fun and I was never serious about the classes. My first serious computer classes taught me DOS commands towards the end of the 90's .
On a lighter note, my handwriting is pathetic. :D
Destiny had plans to make me a part of IT industry. It sure did. The year I was getting started with my bachelors, IT had seen its first recession and I was skeptical about choosing IT field and chose a different stream instead. And this stream was not related to IT but still made use of C language. A simple flow diagram which my friend taught me one fine day changed my destiny. I changed my stream and took a liking to computers and here I am today in the IT field, hungry for more knowledge.
Given a choice of household chores and working on computers, I would prefer the latter. That's how computers have become an integral part of my life.
Today we are past Fortran and .NET 2.0. As years go by and the world is moving towards metaverse a lot of trending technologies like Big 4 and AI will be just a memory of the past and floppy discs and CD ROM's will be mythological instruments of the IT space.
I am looking forward and excited to see what the IT has in store for the coming years.
